It’s been an absolute pleasure and a lot of fun getting to write the photo story of Ashwini & Raam‘s wedding in Coimbatore. Ashwini’s family originates from Gujarat and Raam is from a Telugu family. We have always been fascinated with Cross Culture weddings as there will be a lot of ingredients for a candid photographer to create an interesting visual story.
The wedding kick-started with a traditional Haldi ceremony, a purification ritual where aromatic turmeric paste is applied on the bride by her aunts, cousins and friends. This was followed by the Mehendi (The bride gets intricate designs of henna drawn on her hands and feet by expert artisans). Ashwini had to sit for hours to get her mehendi done, but surrounded by her brothers keeping her company she was beaming the entire time.
Ah… the moments of joy, friendship & love… (Oops! We almost forgot the groom who sneaked a visit to catch a glimpse of his love.)
The evening was the Sangeeth (basically an Indian party night) with some amazing dance and musical performances by everyone in the family, right from the youngest Dikri to the eldest Baa. Ashwini being an event planner herself, this was a party, disco night and a grand gala award ceremony, all rolled into one! She had carefully picked out every single detail like the selfie photo booth, the wish tree, the awards and even the bangles at the trinkets counter.
Now for the D-day.
The temple bells welcomed us on this beautiful Monday morning to a traditional Telugu wedding. The groom was wearing a silk white kurta, dhoti and thalapaga. As if announcing her arrival, we could hear a peacock’s call somewhere nearby… and then she arrived, dressed in a gorgeous saree, adorned with glittering stone jewellery and fragrant mallipoo. The wedding rituals were short and sweet – with the elders blessing them, Raam tied the nuptial knot around Ashwini – a dream-come-true moment for both.
Ashwini & Raam, thank you for letting us be a part of your story. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness and a lot of crazy moments together.
Here are some of our favorite frames from the AshRaam wedding. Listen to some music while scrolling.
